It was Gramsci that said that moral and intellectual reform begins with the inner-hegemonic struggle and the new culture is never wholly new; it is in large part a rearrangement of ideas already present in the old. So the point is that you have to build and stay around long enough to effect you would be in dialogue. That may mean you have to loose some of those that require purity.
