LibraryThing
A cool site/tool I was recently made aware of… LibraryThing.
I like that it uses an open standard for managing my book collection: Z39.50.
I also like that I can export my data.
You can see a more extensive listing of my library here.

Very cool concept, but who owns the data about your personal library? Can it be exported?
How do you put books in? I wonder if you could scan bar code labels to do it more easily.

Yes, you can easily import and export. They have a range of tools… a browser tool lets you grab any book info embedded in a page… they also have a tool/facility for scanning barcodes. I had one of the cuecats they are selling. Dont know what I did with it!
As to who owns the data - not clear what that means once you make it public (I think you can keep your collection private or share only with friends, but I didnt look into that.) But anyway, if you make it a public listing - anyone could scrape that info, I suppose.
